Land Trust of the Upper Arkansas Community

Protecting Central Colorado

The geographic focus of LTUA is the area of Chaffee, Fremont and Lake Counties in central Colorado. The Arkansas River flows through and connects these counties.

The river, neighboring foothills, and mountains contain many truly outstanding natural and cultural features that are worthy of preservation. The LTUA was formed for this reason and needs your help to preserve these special areas. Join us, your friends and neighbors, to help us accomplish these goals.

How We Work

The Land Trust of the Upper Arkansas can use a variety of different tools to protect critical lands in the Upper Arkansas Valley. This includes:

The Land Trust works with private land owners that are interested in protecting their lands from development, in particular local ranchers that are looking for a way to keep ranching, especially as real estate values climb and pressures mount for many ranchers to subdivide their properties.

The Land Trust supports ranching as an important historical and cultural component of the Upper Arkansas Valley. Ranchlands provide large undeveloped space and important habitat for wildlife. In addition, irrigated pasture or crops keeps the water in the Valley. Having an active ranching community helps maintain the rural character and economic diversity of the area.

By resolution of the Board, LTUA adopted the Land Trust Alliance’s Standards and Practices as a basis for conducting business in Lake, Chaffee, and Fremont Counties.
